Samra Brouk is running for State Senate in the 56th District, and has been the incumbent since her election in 2020. Senator Brouk is against the racist policies that have resulted in environmental injustices that poison communities of color across the country. She is committed to safeguarding our natural resources, embracing a green economy that provides good-paying jobs, and equitably addressing historic injustices so that every child has a clean world to grow in. Brouk believes that we must call upon fossil fuel companies to do their part and help support communities most hurt by their pollution and climate change. She has supported provisions to approve the Environmental Bond Act, sponsored legislation to protect children from pesticides at camp, and is against the use of pesticides and other chemicals that are affecting our ecosystem. Brouk has supported several bills with priorities including but not limited to: to requires all new cars sold in the state to be zero-emissions by the year 2035, and for the same to be true of medium-duty and heavy-duty vehicles by 2045; to direct the Public Service Commission to establish a more flexible, accessible billing system for electric vehicle charging; and to establish the extended producer responsibility act, which would require covered materials and product producers to develop and implement strategies to promote recycling, reuse and recovery of packaging and paper products. She also supports the NYLCV agenda that emphasizes farm-to-table programming to deliver fresh food to underserved areas and New York State’s schools.
