Eddie Gibbs is an incumbent seeking re-election to represent Assembly District 68. Gibbs is a champion of environmental justice, and promotes environmental policies that prioritize the health and economic impacts of climate change on frontline communities. Gibbs’s East Harlem community faces disproportionate impacts of fossil fuel emissions, and this underpins his support for electric school bus fleets and a transition to zero-emission transit in his district. Gibbs supports expanding renewable energy to help meet 2030 state goals related to zero emissions: He advocates for small-scale solar panel construction to offset energy costs for tenants. If re-elected, Gibbs plans to support initiatives that incorporate climate science into resiliency planning, specifically by pushing for the adoption of coastal erosion hazard area maps. Gibbs will continue to expand programs such as the Farm to School Grants, introduce healthy meals into public schools, and will support policies that help farmers access green agriculture technology.
