Dr. Yusef Salaam

Yusef Salaam is running to represent District 9 in the New York City Council. Salaam is a champion for social justice, and thus understands how structural inadequacies can inequitably undermine front line and disadvantaged communities. As such, Salaam expresses strong support for the NYLCV’s initiatives, and pledges to ensure the equitable transition to decarbonized buildings in Harlem, prioritize the decarbonization of public transit and increasing its usage, advocate for the maintenance of greenspace and tree canopies, implement green infrastructure in Harlem. If re-elected he plans to leverage state and federal resources to rid New York City from lead exposure, and work with private sector developers to incentivize the proliferation of food markets that provide affordable opportunities to residents.
