NYLCV is the only statewide environmental organization in New York that fights for clean water, clean air, renewable energy and open space through political action. We’re non-partisan, pragmatic and effective.
WHAT WE DO
EVALUATE
We evaluate the performance of elected officialsENDORSE
We endorse candidates who care about the environmentELECT
We campaign for the passage of laws and candidatesWe use strategic political engagement to drive environmental progress in New York State, by combining policy advocacy, public education, and electoral engagement. Here’s how.
First, we work with our partners to set policy priorities for the upcoming budgetary and legislative session. Then, these priorities – from scaling up clean energy, to cleaning waterways – guide our grassroots organizing, direct lobbying, and NYLCV-funded education campaigns.
After the session ends, we evaluate how lawmakers performed through our Environmental Scorecards. As election season begins, we use these scorecards to determine which candidates to endorse. Then, through campaign contributions and on-the-ground support, we help elect pro-environment candidates up and down the ballot. Then, the cycle starts again.
Through advocacy and electoral pressure, our integrated approach helps ensure that elected officials are accountable for their environmental records, and that policy goals are continuously reinforced, throughout the legislative and election seasons.
