Selvena Brooks-Powers

Selvena Brooks-Powers is running for re-election to represent District 31 in the New York City Council. As a representative of a coastal community, she has made environmental resilience a top priority, ensuring that outer boroughs like hers are included in the city’s pro-environment agenda. Since taking office, Brooks-Powers has actively fought for infrastructure funding through the City for All negotiations and continues working to pass legislation that protects environmentally vulnerable communities. Recognizing the unique challenges her district faces, she co-sponsored Intro 210, establishing an office to remove derelict boats and barges from local waters. She has also passed multiple bills addressing trucking issues in last-mile communities and is currently collaborating on legislation regarding the indirect source rule to curb pollution. If re-elected Brooks-Powers will remain committed to working alongside environmental advocates like the New York League of Conservation Voters to push for policies that strengthen New York City’s climate resilience.
