Dermot Smyth

Dermot Smyth is running for NYC Council District 30. A former teacher and proud union member, Dermot has seen firsthand how pollution and climate change affect our children—especially in low-income communities. Inspired by his love of hiking and raising his daughter near local parks, he’s a passionate advocate for preserving green space and expanding access to nature. On City Council, Dermot will push for all-electric public transit, renewable energy in schools and public housing, green job training, stronger air quality standards, and safer recycling for e-bike batteries. He’ll fight for sustainable upgrades to NYCHA, resilient coastal infrastructure, and heat protections for seniors.
