Christopher Marte is seeking re-election to represent District 1 in the New York City Council

Christopher Marte is running for re-election to represent District 1 in the New York City Council. Councilmember Marte is committed to creating more green spaces in our communities, prioritizing parks and community gardens over concrete playgrounds and toxic, paved-over sites. He has planted over 500 trees, created two new parks, and funded four schools to establish hydroponic gardens. Additionally, the Councilmember secured $5 million for Lower East Side Ecology to build new headquarters in East River Park, ensuring the continuation of their citywide composting program. He has also fought to prevent the weakening of landmark legislation like Local Law 97, and has introduced various climate bills allowing schools to create community gardens. Over the past three years in office, the Councilmember has secured major transportation victories, including the Brooklyn Bridge bike lane, a protected bike path on Center Street, an expanded bike lane on 6th Avenue, the implementation of Sammy’s Law, the creation of a protected two-way bike lane on Park Row, and has funded community air monitoring programs on the Lower East Side and Chinatown. If re-elected Marte will continue to be a strong advocate for the environmentally friendly built environment.
