Rita Joseph

Rita Joseph is running for re-election to represent District 40 in the New York City Council.

Rita Joseph is running for re-election to represent District 40 in the New York City Council. Since being elected in 2021, Councilmember Joseph has been a staunch advocate for the environment and has been dedicated to advancing a legislative agenda to combat climate change. The Councilmember is proud to have received a perfect score multiple times from NYLCV, including for 2024. Councilmember Joseph believes in fully funding the implementation of aggressive climate policies in the city, while simultaneously maintaining a bold approach to increasing energy efficiency, reducing commercial waste, and reducing our reliance on non-renewable energies. She seeks to strengthen laws on greenhouse gas emissions, and advocates for the NYC Streets Plan, Congestion Pricing, Vision Zero, as well as all local laws aimed at reducing vehicle traffic or greening fleets. Most recently, she has secured $500,000 in funding for restoration projects in Prospect Park and successfully lobbied to increase NYCHA’s budget by $1.5 billion for improvements. Further, as Chair of the Committee on Education, she is committed to expanding educational programs around healthy eating and sustainability. If re-elected Joseph will continue to be a voice for the environment in the City Council.
