Shahana Hanif is running for re-election in District 39, New York City Council

Shahana Hanif is running for re-election to represent District 39 in the New York City Council. Over the past three years in office, Hanif has been a dedicated advocate for environmental progress. Her environmental scorecard with the NYLCV has been a perfect 100%, and she helped pass a law introducing the largest universal mandatory composting program in the nation. Councilmember Hanif is committed to limiting the amount of greenhouse gas large buildings can emit, and she believes that eliminating climate law loopholes is essential to prioritizing the health and safety of New Yorkers. Locally, Councilmember Hanif has worked with her community to advance environmental initiatives. She has funded projects like planting one hundred new trees, constructing a storytelling garden at the Pacific Library, and installing a garden room at P.S. 131. Councilmember Hanif has also supported tree stewardship and rain garden programs managed by the Gowanus Canal Conservancy, worked to expand parks and public areas, including the creation of Kensington Plaza and the 4th Street Plaza. Her commitment to a pro-environment agenda remains unwavering, and she will continue fighting for a healthier, more sustainable future for all New Yorkers if re-elected.
