Pierina Sanchez

Pierina Sanchez is running for re-election to represent District 14 in the New York City Council. Earning a perfect score from NYLCV in 2023 and 2024, Councilmember Sanchez is proud to prioritize catalyzing meaningful government action to urgently address climate change, and take strides to improve and protect our city’s air, water, and green spaces. She remains a tireless advocate for environmental justice in her district, and has helped craft and implement numerous pieces of legislation to work towards that end. As Chair of Housing and Buildings, Councilmember Sanchez held numerous oversight hearings holding the administration accountable on implementing the nation’s most ambitious municipal climate law. In addition to legislating a requirement that mandates rulemaking regarding renewable energy credits, Councilmember Sanchez has sponsored bills that raise green energy standards for city-owned and funded buildings, and co-sponsored legislation to establish a goal of zero waste in New York city by 2030. If re-elected Councilmember Sanchez will continue to work towards the passage of a host of other targeted bills to make our communities greener and more sustainable.
