Shaun Abreu is seeking re-election to represent District 7 in the New York City Council

Shaun Abreu is running for re-election to represent District 7 in the New York City Council. Earning a perfect score from NYLCV three years in a row, Councilmember Abreu is committed to a pro-environment policy agenda. Prior to taking office, he served as managing editor for the Environmental Law Review during his time at Tulane University Law School and completed a legal externship for the Natural Resources Defense Council. During his time in office, he has led a successful environmental initiative to restore community composting, increase fines for littering, and containerize trash. Councilmember Abreu has created a requirement for stadiums in the City to allow spectators to bring reusable water bottles, and passed bills that stop big truck rigs from idling at all hours. Further, he sponsored legislation aimed at preventing lead poisoning and reducing carbon emissions. Abreu successfully secured funding for underinvested green spaces and programs that employ composting workers and educators across the city. If re-elected, Abreu will collaborate with leaders in his district to support the expansion of open streets, accessible public transportation, and the strengthening of Local Law 97 to improve the energy efficiency of the City’s buildings while ensuring that homeowners receive support and guidance. Councilmember Abreu is also committed to defending congestion pricing, repurposing parking spaces as part of a trash containerization pilot in West Harlem, and fighting for 1% of the City’s budget to be sent to Parks. Councilmember Abreu supports all of NYLCV’s initiatives and has proven his commitment to seeing them through.
