The NYLCV family is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Matthew Peter. Over the course of the last ten years, going back to his time with the Albany Mayor’s Office and then with the Albany County Legislature, we had the great pleasure of working frequently with Matthew on several pieces of environmental legislation, and just this fall we were grateful to have partnered with him to educate New Yorkers about the benefits in the Inflation Reduction Act. Matthew was a dedicated public servant and an effective lawmaker whose conscience guided his work. His passion for helping his constituents was an inspiration to us and to his fellow legislators and to lose him at such a young age is an unspeakable tragedy. I was also fortunate to have known him as a neighbor for many years and know that his most honorable traits extended well beyond politics and permeated every corner of his life. Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues at this difficult time.
