Senator Todd Kaminsky and Assemblyman Steve Englebright are long-time leaders on the environment. As chairs of the Senate and Assembly Environmental Conservation Committees, this year they spearheaded the passage of the nation’s strongest climate law – the Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act. After years of debate, they led both of their legislative houses to overwhelmingly pass the bill this June. The ambitious standards set in the law put the state on a path to 100% clean power by 2040, net-zero greenhouse gas emissions economy-wide by 2050 including a requirement to reduce emissions by 85%, and investing in frontline communities who are hit first and worst with climate pollution.
Suffolk Transportation Service is a transportation provider for both school buses and public transit buses in Suffolk County. They were the first school bus company to help design an all-electric school bus. They also designed plug-in hybrid electric school and commercial buses. They are committed to transportation alternatives that will lower emissions and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA) manages Brookhaven National Laboratory for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. Brookhaven Lab delivers discovery science and transformative technology to power and secure the nation’s future. Its 2,600 staff help drive the new energy economy—researching everything from off-shore wind, to solar power, catalysts, renewable biofuels and more, supported by grid innovation and grid-level battery storage. Brookhaven Lab’s current initiatives also include nuclear science, energy science, data science, particle physics, accelerator science and technology, quantitative plant science, and quantum information science. A partnership between the Research Foundation of the State of New York (on behalf of Stony Brook University) and Battelle, BSA engages six of the world’s premier research universities (Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton and Yale) in the governance and oversight of the Laboratory.
We hope you can join us to celebrate this work, as well as additional wins for the environment that include banning offshore drilling, reducing waste, and passing congestion pricing. Become a sponsor or purchase tickets today!
