While we are pleased to see continued or increased funding for a wide range of environmental programs, we are disappointed that the budget fails to reflect our policy priorities including action to reduce single use bag waste, legislation requiring large generators of food waste to divert their food waste from landfills, the preservation of farmland, and reform of the 480-a forest tax abatement.

While most of the attention on new funding recently has been focused on congestion pricing, “value capture” is another way to fund capital projects that is being hotly debated.

Recently, the New York Appellate Court issued a decision that will preserve protected farmland in Suffolk County for generations to come.
