Volunteer or Intern with NYLCV

NYLCV is always on the lookout for top-notch interns and volunteers. We collaborate with high schools, colleges and graduate schools to help generate interest in the environment and develop careers in the field. Equally, if you’re a former or current working professional looking to learn more about and contribute to our work, we’d love to work with you. 

We have openings in the following departments:

Responsibilities could include: 

  • Scheduling and attending lobbying meetings with legislators
  • Drafting advocacy documents such as legislative memos and fact sheets 
  • Sharing NYLCV’s position on bills and information on legislative scorecard with legislators and their staff
  • Supporting volunteer coordination efforts, including call days and event staffing

Qualifications could include:

  • Strong interest in environmental issues
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Experience with social media, Google Suite, and data management
  • Previous experience in community organizing, environmental advocacy, or voter outreach

Responsibilities could include:

 

  • Engaging in candidate and campaign research

  • Assisting in drafting candidate profiles

  • Monitoring political events and news stories concerning the election
  • Creating or updating databases for tracking our endorsement process
  • Organizing and leading volunteer campaign efforts for NYLCV endorsed candidates
  • Collaborating on various department-wide projects as needed

Qualifications could include: 

  • A self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills 

  • Understanding and experience with campaign activities (phone calls and canvassing)

  • Proficient with Google Docs and Google Sheets

  • Experience with voter databases like NGP VAN
  • Willingness to learn

Responsibilities could include:

  • Organizing and attending community outreach events, tabling, canvassing, and phonebanking efforts
  • Distributing educational materials and encouraging community engagement in NYLCV’s environmental initiatives
  • Supporting data entry for outreach efforts, including petition signatures and voter pledges
  • Identifying and scheduling outreach opportunities with local organizations and partners
  • Conducting research to support event planning and the creation of educational materials 

Qualifications could include: 

  • Interest in environmental advocacy, education, voting, and state and local politics
  • Experience with canvassing, get out the vote (GOTV) efforts, or community organizing
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace.

Responsibilities could include: 

  • Drafting content for NYLCV social media channels, newsletters and website
  • Editing and writing content for NYLCV publications 
  • Writing blog posts about New York’s environmental issues and our policy priorities
  • Writing press documents and talking points  
  • Managing social media 
  • Preparing senior staff for interviews with press
  • Pitching digital and print communications ideas

Qualifications could include: 

  • Interest in environmental advocacy and communications 
  • Experience managing and creating content for social media 
  • Experience writing blogs, web content and other relevant communications materials 
  • Proficiency in Canva and WordPress

Responsibilities could include:

  • Working with the Development Coordinator on weekly Revenue Reports
  • Compiling, printing, and organizing monthly tax-deductible recognition letters to donors
  • Assistance with NYLCV’s Corporate Partners program including drafting renewal letters, creating invoices, managing guest lists
  • Assisting with donor and grant research 
  • General administrative assistance
  • Collaborating with the Communications Team on email and social media fundraising effort

Qualifications could include: 

  • Strong writing and research skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and conduct multiple projects simultaneously
  • General interest in environmental issues such as climate change, open spaces, transportation, and public health
  • General interest in social and environmental justices.
