The New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) is a non-profit advocacy group committed to environmental justice and sustainability. Through education, outreach, and advocacy campaigns, we empower communities to support clean energy solutions, water conservation, and equitable public spaces.
Position Summary:
NYLCV is seeking a dedicated Programs & Communications Organizer to assist with community outreach and advocacy efforts. This part-time, temporary role will support programs related to offshore wind, clean water, and voter engagement. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator who can engage with community members, manage outreach initiatives, and support digital and written communications efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize and attend community outreach events, tabling, and canvassing efforts.
- Distribute educational materials and encourage community engagement in NYLCV’s environmental initiatives.
- Manage data entry for outreach efforts, including petition signatures and voter pledges.
- Identify and schedule outreach opportunities with local organizations and partners.
- Assist with drafting social media posts, press materials, and advocacy documents.
- Support volunteer coordination efforts, including call days and event staffing.
Qualifications:
- Strong interest in environmental issues, voting, and renewable energy.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with diverse communities.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Experience with social media, Google Suite, and data management.
- Previous experience in community organizing, environmental advocacy, or voter outreach preferred.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Access to a car with a clean driving record or ability to travel around Long Island.
Compensation & Schedule:
- $20/hour, 20 hours per week through November (approximately 40 weeks).
- Flexible scheduling required, including some weekend and evening work.
