Communications – Social Media Fellowship

We're Hiring

As a Communications Fellow at the New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV), you will play a crucial role in supporting our communications efforts to advance our environmental policy goals, raise awareness about our educational programming, and promote sustainability across New York State. This Fellowship offers an opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in the field of communications and environmental advocacy.

Among the communications functions you may be asked to perform: 

Social Media Management (Primary Responsibility): 

  • Monitor and maintain NYLCV’s social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. 
  • Draft engaging and informative social media posts to promote NYLCV’s mission, events, and initiatives. 
  • Monitor trends and news related to environmental issues and engage with the online community. 

Content Creation:

  • Assist in drafting press releases, media advisories, speeches, and other written materials to communicate NYLCV’s positions and announcements.
  • Contribute to the development of compelling content for NYLCV’s website, blog, and newsletters. 
  • Help create visually appealing materials, including infographics, presentations, and videos.

  • Producing publications

We are looking for people who care about the environment and would like to pursue a career in public relations and issues communications. We want hard workers, natural communicators and strong writers. To succeed in this role, you will be comfortable collaborating as well as taking direction and then going on to execute with minimal supervision. We are seeking candidates with the following: 

  • Professional experience with and deep understanding of social media
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to translate environmental policy into engaging online content
  • Basic graphic design skills (ability to update templates, mostly in Canva)
  • An understanding of what makes a compelling visual
  • Photography and videography skills are a bonus 

Time Commitment and Compensation:

Location: NYLCV is based in lower Manhattan and we have a hybrid work environment. 

Appointment: A six months commitment

Weekly Hourly Requirements: 15-20 hours

Compensation: $20/hr.
