Community Organizer

The New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) is the only statewide environmental organization in New York that fights for clean water, clean air, renewable energy, and open space through political action. We are non-partisan, pragmatic, and effective. Along with its sister organizations, the  NYLCV Education Fund, NYLCV PAC, and NYLCV Gives Green, we educate the public about a broad range of important issues, evaluate the performance of elected officials, and endorse and elect by campaigning for the passage of laws during the legislative season and candidates in the electoral season.

NYLCV is hiring a Community Organizer who will work with the Senior Director of Programs and Program Associate to broaden our reach and connect with communities located in or near NYLCV’s top priority campaigns and projects. The Community Organizer will use grassroots and digital tools to advance our campaigns and strategy in these areas and build relationships with community members, groups, and stakeholders relating to our ongoing and future projects.This position will be part of a dynamic, skilled, and growing data-driven team, working closely with the Programs teams, community members and leaders. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, enthusiastic, and passionate about the environment and the fight for climate justice, and ready to take action to hold elected officials accountable and advocate for community driven solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Speak with and educate stakeholders, business owners and community members about our priority issues including electric school buses, clean energy, environmental health, etc.
  • Engage and educate community members around place based public health issues that affect their quality of life and neighborhood livability such as air quality.
  • Collect feedback on ongoing projects from residents and stakeholders, and serve as projects’ community liaison.
  • Report on status of community involvement in ongoing projects to the Programs Team and other project partners on a regular basis.
  • Work with the Programs team to create educational opportunities for the community around ongoing projects including webinars and town halls, as well as assisting in creating educational materials for community members.

Requirements:

  • Experience in community organizing and community leadership development.
  • Commitment to environmental justice issues.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work both in teams and alone.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.

Location: The candidate will have a hybrid schedule with weekly travel to NYLCV’s office in Lower Manhattan.

Compensation and Title: Salary range for this position is $45-50K, along with holiday, vacation, 401k plan, and health/dental/vision benefits.
