John L. Greenthal
John Greenthal is Senior Counsel at Nixon Peabody LLP, concentrating on energy and environmental projects, particularly in the defense of environmental enforcement matters. Best Lawyers named Greenthal the Albany Environmental Lawyer of the Year for 2011 (the first year such award was made), and he has consistently been recognized for exceptional standing in the legal community in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. In addition, he teaches a seminar which he created to high school students called “Environmental Issues and Public Policy.”
Greenthal is the former Director of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Division of Environmental Enforcement, where he was responsible for overseeing enforcement of State Superfund and all other State environmental enforcement activities. He previously served as Chair of the Northeast Hazardous Waste Project and the Environmental Law Section of the NYS Bar Association; he is currently the Co-Chair of the Diversity Committee of the Environmental Law Section.
