Statement on Governor Cuomo’s State of the State address

The New York League of Conservation Voters issued the following statement in response to Governor Cuomo’s 2021 State of the State address on the green energy economy:

Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters, said, “New York cannot solve the climate crisis without clean energy and clean transportation. That’s why we are excited that Governor Cuomo’s State of the State address prioritized renewable energy and the transition to a green economy, including new awards for transmission projects that will connect New York City to clean power. The jobs that these projects create will be a strong basis for our economic recovery while prioritizing environmental justice communities that are overburdened by the effects of climate change. Now, we look forward to hearing more about the state’s plan to address the transportation sector’s impact on our environment – our #1 contributor to climate change. Policies such as encouraging electrification, a Clean Fuel Standard, and implementing congestion pricing are prioritized in our State Policy Agenda. We commend Governor Cuomo for his bold vision for recentering around a green energy economy.”
