NYLCV released this statement following the U.S. Senate passage of the Great American Outdoors Act:
Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters, said, “We thank Senators Schumer and Gillibrand for their leadership helping to pass the Great American Outdoors Act. This historic accomplishment is a major step towards full, permanent funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, – one of our country’s most important conservation programs – investing in critical repairs for national parks and public lands, and creating jobs for New Yorkers. In New York alone, the LWCF has invested over $320 million, which has generated state and local revenue, stimulated local economies, and preserved our forests, parks, wildlife refuges, and outdoor spaces. Investing in our natural areas like parks, trails, beaches, and playgrounds will boost the outdoor recreation economy and ensure that greenspaces continue to remain well-maintained for safe social distancing. We now urge the New York House Delegation to ask the House leadership to pass the Senate-approved GAOA as soon as possible.”
