NYLCV Statement on Streets Closing During COVID

NYLCV released the following statement in response to the announcement that New York City streets would close during the COVID outbreak in order to allow for social distancing.

Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters, said, “Thank you Speaker Johnson and Council Member Rivera for your leadership in fighting for more open space and pedestrian-friendly streets. Closing up to 100 miles of streets is a common sense solution that allows New Yorkers to practice social distancing and enjoy the fresh air. We have suffered from a long-term lack of open spaces and this type of reimaging of the streetscape is a win for public health and air quality. We commend Mayor de Blasio for making this commitment and look forward to seeing it put into action.”
