The New York League of Conservation Voters released the following statement in response to Governor Cuomo’s announcement of renewable energy solicitations:
Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters, said, “New York is leading with these landmark clean energy solicitations. The offshore wind and land-based renewable energy solicitations will help meet the state’s ambitious Clean Energy Standard of 9,000 MW of offshore wind and 70% renewable energy by 2030. The projects will combat climate change while creating good-paying jobs, invest in our port infrastructure, and prioritize hiring in environmental justice communities. The port infrastructure investments will ensure that benefits of offshore wind are realized across the state. We are pleased that local neighborhoods will be engaged throughout the siting process – one of NYLCV’s policy priorities. This shows that renewable energy is the way forward as our economy recovers. It also prioritizes communities that historically bore a disproportionate burden of the harmful effects of climate change. We thank Governor Cuomo for leading the way on a clean energy economy.”
