The impacts of climate change touch every part of the economy and every part of our lives and so we are pleased that Mayor Adams included the next iteration of Climate Budgeting in his FY26 Executive Budget. Unfortunately there was little else to celebrate in his proposal. Despite the happy talk of baselining, the mayor once again stiffed the Parks Department and came up short on the Fair Fares program. Families and working class New Yorkers are counting on this mayor to deliver for them, and he can and should do that by increasing eligibility for Fair Fares to 200% of the federal poverty level, as called for by many advocates and the City Council, and making good on his campaign promise to increase the city’s Parks Department budget. With a federal government that denies climate change and is hostile to environmental protections, our local leaders must step in to fill the void. We look forward to working with Mayor Adams and the City Council to make 2025 the Year of Parks.
