NYLCV Reacts to Council Speaker Johnson’s State of the City Address

NYLCV issued this statement following New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson’s State of the City Address:

Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters, said, “We were excited to hear City Council Speaker Corey Johnson enthusiastically call on the State Legislature to adopt congestion pricing this year as a critical part of the solution to both our transit crisis and climate crisis during his State of the City address. Any plan to combat climate change must recognize the transportation sector, which is the leading source of greenhouse gas emissions in New York State. We were also glad that he called for Transit Signal Priority on all routes, as well as adding 50 miles of protected bike lanes and 30 miles of dedicated bus lanes annually. We join his call for giving the city’s streets back to the people – a mindset change that could result in less pollution, better air quality and safer streets. We look forward to working with Speaker Johnson and his Council colleagues to help move these policy proposals forward.”
