NYLCV Endorses City Council Candidates in Upcoming Special Elections

New York, N.Y. – The New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) announced its endorsements for upcoming City Council special elections. They endorsed:

  • Selvena Brooks-Powers for City Council District 31 – Special Election on February 23rd
  • Jessica Haller for City Council District 11 – Special Election on March 23rd
  • John Sanchez for City Council District 15 – Special Election on March 23rd

The NYLCV Board recently voted to make these endorsements on the recommendations of the NYC Chapter, which make decisions based on interviews with the candidates and questionnaire responses. This year’s questionnaire included questions based on NYLCV’s policy priorities including reducing emissions, expanding renewable energy, improving public transportation, investing in open space, and decreasing waste.

Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters, said, “City Council Members have the opportunity to enact bold policies that combat climate change, reduce waste and protect our environment. We are confident that these candidates are committed to prioritizing clean air and water, renewable energy, and resilient communities. That’s why we are proud to endorse them and urge voters to join us in casting their ballot for the environment.”

The New York League of Conservation Voters is the only non-partisan, statewide environmental organization in New York that takes a pragmatic approach to fight for clean water, healthy air, renewable energy, and open space. For more information, visit www.nylcv.org.
