New Yorkers Demand Environmental Leadership in Mixed Election Results

The New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) Victory Fund congratulates Senator Lea Webb and Assembly member-elect Judy Griffin on their successful election and celebrates the continued support for environmental protections in New York State. While we are disappointed that Chris McCreight did not win his race, the outcome underscores the continued need to mobilize voters to hold candidates who don’t support key environmental and public health measures accountable.

“Today’s results show that while there’s a growing recognition of the importance of environmental and public health protections, there is still work to be done,” said Josh Klainberg, NYLCV Senior Vice President. “We are thrilled that Senator Lea Webb and Assemblymember-elect Judy Griffin will continue their exemplary work to protect the environment, but we remain concerned that Alec Brook-Krasny will stand in the way of policies that protect our air, water, and communities. The NYLCV Victory Fund is proud of the impact this campaign had in educating voters about environmental champions and accountability, and we’ll continue to hold all elected officials accountable for advancing common-sense environmental policies.”

The NYLCV Victory Fund ran a six-figure advertising campaign to hold Assemblymembers Brian Curran and Alec Brook-Krasny accountable for their history of opposing fundamental protections, and to highlight Senator Lea Webb’s commitment to the environment. The Fund’s targeted ad buy included a robust digital and mail campaign to reach voters in each district.
