Political Associate

The New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) is the only statewide environmental organization in New York that fights for clean water, clean air, renewable energy, and open space through political action. We’re non-partisan, pragmatic, and effective. Along with its sister organizations, the NYLCV Education Fund, NYLCV PAC, and NYLCV Gives Green, we educate the public about a broad range of important issues, evaluate the performance of elected officials, and endorse and elect by campaigning for the passage of laws during the legislative season and candidates in the electoral season.

Description: The Political Associate will help NYLCV to increase its capacity to engage in politics, at the federal, state, and local levels and achieve progress on key policies and execute programs based on policy priorities on Long Island. This position reports to the Senior Vice President.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist the Senior Vice President in all aspects of the endorsement process statewide
  • Support campaign activity for endorsed candidates and issues
  • Identify and cultivate partnerships on Long Island, including non-traditional partners
  • Support the Policy Department by identifying concrete policy actions to advance on Long Island
  • Support the Program Department with programs on Long Island
  • Attend press conferences and other events on behalf of the organization on Long Island

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of and interest in New York electoral politics (local, state, and federal)
  • Experience with managing multiple ongoing projects
  • Capable of building and maintaining relationships with government and policy partners
  • Effectively able to communicate with a range of stakeholders

Location: Based on Long Island, hybrid with occasional travel to NYLCV’s office in Lower Manhattan and elsewhere in New York State.

Compensation and Title: NYLCV offers a competitive salary and title commensurate with experience (range of $50,000 and $70,000), along with holiday, vacation, 401k plan, and health/dental/vision benefits.
