Clean transit is a part of the Biden climate plan. NYLCV is hopeful that the Biden administration will prioritize public transit and congestion pricing. We also anticipate the President-elect’s swift actions to advance environmental protection and tackle climate change in 2021.

E-scooters have the potential to further decrease traffic congestion, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and provide commuters with a socially distanced transportation option. It is a critical time to be pragmatic and execute this pilot as New York City continues to adjust to the COVID-19 pandemic.

More and more New Yorkers are opting to commute by bike, and we’ll need to do so even more to reduce emissions. That’s why NYLCV supports H.R. 1507, the Bicycle Commuter Act.

Mayor de Blasio announced last month that the Department of Transportation (DOT) reached its speed camera expansion goal for the summer of 2020, giving NYC the largest speed camera network in the world. Speed cameras make streets safer and encourage New Yorkers to walk rather than drive greenhouse gas-emitting vehicles.

In late June, we shared that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) was seeking $3.9 billion in emergency aid from Congress. Since then, their fiscal crisis has only worsened.
