Earlier this month, U.S. Senate Democrats proposed a polluter import fee that would target imports from nations lacking progressive climate policies. There is an abundance of hope that this fee will make strides in international climate discussion and promote emissions reductions.

The Gateway Tunnel project, which would fix rail infrastructure under the Hudson River, is making headway in the U.S. Department of Transportation and Secretary Buttigieg. NYLCV supports the project because it would improve mass transit and reduce pollution.

There has recently been a push to protect 30% of our lands by 2030. Nationally, the Biden Administration committed to this goal in January and legislation at the state level would codify the goal.

Clean fuel standards (CFS), an important tool for reducing transportation emissions, are on the march across North America. NYLCV strongly encourages our State Legislature to enact a New York Clean Fuel Standard in the 2021 legislative session. 

During his campaign, President Biden made a commitment to the environment, including a promise that one of his first actions as president would be to rejoin the Paris climate agreement. Not only did President Biden keep this promise, he also signed a host of other executive orders on the same day, just a week after his inauguration.
