The New York City Council last week passed legislation to restrict food-service establishments from giving out single-use plastic straws, except upon request. This will cut the city’s plastic output that reaches our landfills and oceans.

NYLCV Joins Statewide Lobby Day in Honor of Earth Day
NYLCV joined two dozen environmental groups from across New York to lobby more than 60 members of the state legislature on 10 bills to advance environmental justice, protect drinking water, ban harmful chemicals, support sustainable waste management, and protect natural habitats. Several of the bills included are NYLCV priorities and are likely to appear on our legislative scorecard later this year.

Mayor de Blasio Makes Major Announcement on Two NYLCV Priorities: Organic Waste and School Buses
On Earth Day, Mayor de Blasio announced that the city's food scrap collection program would restart and a transition to electric school buses citywide, among other initiatives. We have long been advocating for both of these policies, including as founding members of the NYC Clean School Bus Coalition.
