The New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) and New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (NYLCVEF) held board elections at their Annual Board Meeting on January 31, naming a new Chairman of NYLCV’s State Board along with several other new and continuing officers and members.
Jon Del Giorno was elected as the Chair of the NYLCV Board. Del Giorno is a founding partner of Pitta Bishop Del Giorno & Giblin LLC, where he manages the firm’s New York City consulting and government relations practice. He was most recently a Vice-Chair of the NYLCV Board and Chair of the NYLCV PAC Board. He follows Steve Russo, who served for six years as Board Chair and will continue on as a board member.
Russo co-chairs the Environmental Practice at Greenberg Traurig, LLP, and chairs the firm’s New York Environmental Practice. Prior to that he served as Chief Legal Officer of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
NYLCV President Julie Tighe gave the following statement on the leadership change:
“We owe Steve Russo a debt of gratitude for his six years of service as Chair of NYLCV’s Board. In that time we have achieved significant environmental policy wins — including the passage of the CLCPA, the nation’s strongest climate law — while also experiencing unprecedented growth, not only in terms of the size of our organization, but also in our endorsement numbers and in our reach across the state. None of this would have been possible without Steve’s leadership.
“We are excited to have Jon Del Giorno stepping up as our new Chairman. Jon brings decades of experience, a deep passion for the environment, and a unique understanding of the political landscape in Albany and New York City, and we look forward to achieving big things for NYLCV under his leadership.”
Other changes include:
Mimi Raygorodetsky was elected as the new Secretary of the NYLCVEF Board. Raygorodetsky has spent decades cleaning brownfields as part of land development in New York City and she is currently a co-leader of Langan’s environmental practice in New York and serves as the environmental lead for the firm’s Denver office.
Vincent Albanese was newly elected as an NYLCV Board Member. Albanese is the Executive Director of the New York State Laborers’ Political Action Fund, where he oversees the administration, financial contributions, and candidates endorsement process for the Laborers’ union in New York State.
Michael Zapson was newly elected as an NYLCV Board Member and was named Chair of NYLCV’s Long Island Chapter Board. Zapson is a partner in the Real Estate Group at Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman, and he is a former member of the Nassau County Legislature. He follows Mitch Pally, who stepped down after more than 13 years of service as Chair.
Pally was recently appointed to the board that will guide the development of the Midway Crossing project in Ronkonkoma. He is the former CEO of the Long Island Builders Institute with prior service with the Long Island Association and the Weber Law Group.
Carley Hill was newly elected as an NYLCV Board Member and was named Chair of NYLCV’s Central and Western NY Chapter Board. Hill—who is the first person to serve in this position—is the CEO & Founder of CAHill Tech, a firm that focuses on workforce development in the heavy construction industry, and provides both on-the-job training as well as an accessible technology-based e-learning platform.
