Earlier this month Governor Hochul announced $16.6 Million in awards for five long duration energy storage projects. These funds have been made available through NYSERDA’s Renewable Optimization and Energy Storage Innovation Program, with the goal of advancing renewable energy implementation and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. Battery and energy storage technologies will be vital to helping us move forward with renewable energy generation and make sure our grid is resilient and reliable.
These five projects cover diverse solutions to energy storage, and will play a major role in New York’s transition to a more sustainable and low emissions grid. The five projects represent differing technologies in the battery space but with the same goal of providing energy reliability and resilience as we rapidly transition to renewable energy generation. Along with other significant investments Governor Hochul has proven time and again that New York State will be a leader in fighting climate change and transitioning to clean energy. This investment will also help New York State reach the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) goal of installing 3,000 megawatts of energy storage by 2030.
We applaud the Governor and NYSERDA for making these awards available and we look forward to seeing this diverse implementation of energy storage move us into the future!
