Every single community must have clean air to breathe, well-maintained parks for recreation, access to fresh foods from local farms, and protection from toxic chemicals. We are fighting to make this a reality.
Last year we had major success pushing legislation to remove toxics from the environment. This includes a program to collect thermostats to reduce mercury pollution, and the reform and renewal of the Brownfield Cleanup Program, ensuring that contaminated land is cleaned and redeveloped.
We continually promote the adoption of ultra-low sulfur home heating oil, and clean biofuel blends as well as reducing transportation emissions by promoting an upgrade to cleaner vehicles. Our continued support and push for increased funding in parks and playgrounds continues at the regional, local, and state levels. Lastly, we are pushing for an increase in the FreshConnect program which will help to ensure clean, healthy foods be provided to “food-desert” areas.
