William Keeler
William Keeler is running for re-election as Mayor of the City of Cohoes. Since being elected in 2019, Keeler has pursued environmental initiatives. In 2020, he signed a local law banning the incineration of materials containing hazardous chemicals in Cohoes leading to a statewide ban and tighter regulation of burning operations, especially those endangering nearby families in low-income housing. He also created the “Cleaner Greener Cohoes” initiative to completely electrify city owned buildings by 2024. Recently in 2022, Keeler facilitated the purchase of 4500 recycling carts for the city, converted all streetlights to energy-efficient LED bulbs, and planned to install the Cohoes Floating Solar Project to generate clean energy and protect the municipal water reservoir. If re-elected, Keeler plans to pursue these ongoing and future sustainability and environmental justice projects.
