Steven Cymbrowitz
Steven Cymbrowitz is an incumbent seeking re-election to represent Assembly District 45 in Brooklyn. He is a longtime member of the Assembly’s Environmental Conservation Committee and has received consistently high ratings on the annual scorecard released by Environmental Advocates of New York. In 2021, he supported an array of legislation protecting children’s health, reducing toxins in the environment, and advancing environmental justice. This legislative list includes the Safe Schools Drinking Water Act, the Family and Firefighter Protection Act, and the Advanced Clean Car and Truck Rule. Cymbrowitz also supported legislation to make EV charging rates more affordable, and legislation to require producers of paper and packaging waste to take financial responsibility for the recycling of their products. As Chair of the Assembly Housing Committee, he introduced in 2021 the Sustainable Affordable Housing Incentive Program, which would promote the creation, preservation or improvement of affordable multi-family housing using green design, construction, materials and energy sources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, he was the author of the legislation that forced New York State to prioritize non-lethal methods for controlling the state’s mute swan population. Cymbrowitz plans to continue his fight to protect environmental health concerns and justice for the New York citizenry.
