Steve Englebright
Steve Englebright is running for election to the Suffolk County Legislature’s 5th District. He served as a county legislator from 1984-1992 before leaving to serve as a New York Assemblyman from 1992-2022. Englebright’s service in these offices has produced results that protect the environment, including his leadership on water quality policy, the spearheading of the preservation of the Pine Barrens Watershed, and by creating various funding streams for research and infrastructure for clean water and wastewater management. Last year he helped shape and advocate for the passage of the $4.2 billion Environmental Bond Act. Englebright has sponsored numerous environmental laws and authorized the “Green Constitutional Amendment,” the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), and many other similar initiatives. He is also the original Prime Sponsor of the Solar Net Metering Act, the Solar Choice Act, and the law that allows all customer classes access to solar energy. If elected back as a legislator, Englebright has committed to advancing the Suffolk County Water Quality Restoration Act.
