Sandy Nurse is running for re-election to represent District 37 in the New York City Council. As the Chair of the Sanitation Committee, Nurse has championed the transformation of the city’s waste systems through the Zero Waste Act, which establishes a goal of zero waste for NYC by 2030. Before her time on the council, she was the founder of BK ROT, a youth composting service and green jobs project which introduced microhauling, the transportation of organic waste without the use of emissions vehicles, which she then put into city legislation as a new sector in the waste industry.
