Dr. Yusef Salaam

Dr. Yusef Salaam is running for election to represent District 9 in the New York City Council. Dr. Salaam is committed to supporting marginalized communities by focusing on environmental justice. If elected, Dr. Salaam hopes to help NYC invest in innovative technologies like geothermal for communities who have borne the brunt of energy-related emissions. For Harlem, he believes that it is crucial to prioritize decarbonizing public transportation in order to help ensure a smooth and equitable clean energy transition for neighborhood residents. If elected, Dr. Salaam plans to advocate for expanding and maintaining green spaces in Harlem and for the provisioning of affordable food market sources for residents due to the increase in food deserts in NYC. Dr. Salaam also looks forward to working on lead poisoning prevention and to developing programs and infrastructure that facilitate clean energy transitions.
