Dorothy Cavalier is running for election as legislator of Suffolk County’s 6th district. She has spent the last five years working to better the county as a prosecutor and then as Chief of Staff in the Suffolk Legislature. Cavalier has contributed to drafting legislation to acquire open space including Middle Island Preserve, Chandler Estate County Park, and Cordwood Landing County Park. In 2019, Cavalier championed the drafting of legislation that prohibited the intentional release of helium balloons in Suffolk County, thereby decreasing pollution from balloon remnants and protecting our wildlife. She has also encouraged and lobbied to support legislation that reduced the use of single-use plastics in county parks and prohibited the use of polystyrene foam containers in the county. One of her top priorities is reducing the county’s reliance on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions. If elected, Cavalier plans to support Climate Smart Communities’ actions, like transitioning to a clean fleet and converting to LED lights.
