Representing a district that almost entirely borders the Long Island Sound, Legislator DeRiggi Whitton has made the protection and restoration of that body of water a primary focus of her work. Her efforts include continuing a six-year project to clean up Glen Cove Beach and the introduction of natural wetlands that act as natural filters. Her efforts to protect the Sound also include introducing an initiative to connect all of her district to sewer systems and removing the last remaining septic systems in her district. DeRiggi-Whitton also spearheaded the reintroduction of shuttle bus service connecting the Port Washington and Roslyn train stations to better serve industrial parks and senior-living facilities along the route. Moving forward DeRiggi-Whitton pledges to continue to clean up the Sound and to move her district to full sewer connection.
