Chris Banks

Chris Banks is running for election to represent the 42nd district of the New York City Council.

Chris Banks is running for re-election in NYC Council District 42. A lifelong resident of East New York, Banks has dedicated his career to addressing environmental justice issues and improving quality of life in historically underserved communities. Over the years, he has spearheaded numerous community-based environmental initiatives, including co-founding the East New York Collaborative to expand access to fresh fruits and vegetables in food-insecure areas. He also revitalized the Van Siclen Block Association, leading block cleanups, green thumb planting, graffiti removal, and public art beautification projects to create a cleaner, more sustainable neighborhood. As a City Council Member, Banks is focused on climate resilience, particularly in flood-prone areas like Canarsie. He has worked with NYC agencies and local groups to address flooding in the Jewel Streets area and is committed to protecting the wetlands and parklands that shield District 42 from climate threats. Banks recognizes that environmental justice is deeply tied to social justice and if re-elected will continue fighting for clean water, sustainable housing, and green infrastructure to build a healthier, more climate-resilient community.
