Since her election to the New York State Assembly in 2010, Aravella Simotas has been a consistent supporter of community and environmental health initiatives, from protecting farmland to updating water saving performance standards.
Her voting record, which showed commitment to a comprehensive environmentally-conscious agenda, earned her a 100% on NYLCV’s 2017 Environmental Scorecard. As a member of the Committee on Energy, Aravella has been especially attentive to air quality and renewable energy, sponsoring legislation to incentivize clean energy technology and efficient public transportation. She has paid additional attention to the regulation of toxins, authoring a bill to prohibit day care centers from having certain hazardous toys and co-sponsoring requirements for the disclosure of high-concern chemicals in children’s products.
If re-elected, Aravella will continue to strive for the incorporation of sustainable energy sources, increased investments in transportation infrastructure and an expansion of zero emission vehicles programs to reduce carbon release rates statewide.
