Ann Welker

Ann Welker is running for the open seat in the Suffolk County Legislature’s 2nd district. For six years, she has held an elected position as a Southampton Town Trustee, where she has acted as a caretaker for the Town of Southampton’s 25,000 acres of bay bottom, also known as bottomlands. During her tenure, the Southampton Town Trustees obtained permission from the NYS DEC and US Army Corps to manage and improve the inlets for Mecox Bay. The work done has caused Mecox Bay’s salinity levels to rise from single digits to the high teens and low twenties, positively impacting the ecosystem. The project has also benefited the watershed, which covers over one thousand acres, and the nearly 400 residents whose homes and farmlands surround the bay. If elected, Welker will strongly advocate for solar energy and better waste management.
