Western New York’s legacy as one of the nation’s first industrial regions continues to be felt today, through the lasting effects of years of air, soil and water pollution. This region has begun to turn a corner, however, with state-of-the-art, clean industries taking root and with renewed interest in cleaning up contaminated sites.
Western New York’s future depends on smart development and cleanup of Brownfield sites and other polluted land. We fought hard to ensure that the state’s programs to address contamination of land and water were extended for a decade, and now we are working to keep these programs going. With so many beautiful waterways in Western New York, we advocate for their cleanup through limits on pollutants such lead and microbeads, mitigation of toxic chemicals, and upgrades to wastewater treatment plants.
