Growth and development are critical and must be managed in a manner that does not overwhelm the ability of the environment to support the population. Sustainability seeks to marry economic growth with environmental protection.

Despite the unprecedented slowdown in economic development activity around the country, the City of Yonkers is poised to experience growth in the coming years. Planning for future growth presents an opportunity for the City Council and Mayor to set Yonkers on a sustainable path. The New York League of Conservation Voters believes that Yonkers has an important and unique opportunity to embed the principles of sustainable development into its urban fabric and launch an environmentally friendly urban renaissance.
