NYLCV reached out to 25,000 voters across New York State, pumping tens of thousands of dollars into statewide, congressional, and legislative races. This support helped to give pro-environment candidates the edge in critical contests.
Nearly 90 percent of the candidates endorsed by NYLCV won in their contests.
Significant NYLCV wins include:
- Victories by all four statewide candidates (U.S. senate, governor, attorney general, state comptroller)
- A major upset by Kirsten Gillibrand [1]over incumbent John Sweeney for the congressional house seat in the 20th district
- A huge win by Michael Arcuri [1] in the open congressional house seat in the 24th district
- Success in all four open seats in the state legislature (Ellen Jaffee [1], Marcus Molinaro [1], Brian Kavanagh [1] for the state assembly; Bill Perkins [1] for the state senate)
The following NYLCV-endorsed challengers who did not win gave incumbents the toughest fights of their careers, each losing by a single digit margin: Daniel Maffei [1] (CD-25), David Mejias [1] (CD-3), and Susan Zimet [1] (SD-42).
