Central New York Prime for Green Businesses

A new report concludes that Central New York is a prime region to grow clean technology industries, according to the Syracuse Post-Standard [1].

The report identified 330 businesses that could be swayed to open shop in the area around Syracuse, above.The report identified 330 businesses that could be swayed to open shop in the area around Syracuse, above.Conducted by the Battelle Memorial Institute [2], the report finds that the 12-county region surrounding the city of Syracuse is particularly well suited for ventures in fuel cell technology, indoor environmental quality and biomass energy.

Economic developers are going to use the report to lure companies to the area. Battelle estimates that by 2011, this green market could become quite profitable.

Darlene Kerr, president of the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce [3], believes that green technology is the best hope for the region's future. "We have agreed that we are going to pool our economic development resources to focus on this sector," she said.
