President Lance Matteson told the Daily Freeman [2] that the initial burst of county support would total $130,000. Another $70,000 will be disbursed during the rest of the year.

The funds will be added to another $6.5 million in the recently concluded state budget [3]. Assemblyman Kevin Cahill [4] , D-Kingston, and state Sens. William Larkin [5], R-Cornwall, and John Bonacic [6], R-Mount Hope, were instrumental in getting the funding into the budget, while U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey [7] helped create the project last year and secured more than $5 million in funding.

The Solar Energy Consortium is working to attract companies involved in solar technology to set up shop at TechCity in the town of Ulster.
