Focus on restoring Canandaigua Lake and watershed
New York, New York --- The New York League of Conservation Voters, the nonpartisan voice for New York's environmental community, today announced its endorsement of Ellen Polimeni, who is seeking re-election as mayor of Canandaigua.
Polimeni has long been an advocate for the environment in Canandaigua, creating the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Task Force in 1989 to safeguard Canandaigua Lake water. She also formed the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Council, an organization made up of chief elected officials from every community in the lake's watershed area to create uniformity in regard to environmental issues. Polimeni has stood behind measures to increase public access to the lake alongside the creation of parks, walkways and trails in Canandaigua.
"Ellen Polimeni has been a tireless advocate for the protection of air and water quality in the City of Canandaigua," said Rhea Jezer, an NYLCV board member and its Central New York representative. "The New York League of Conservation Voters is happy to endorse her and work with her on her future ambitious plans for the city."
Looking to the future, Polimeni vows to continue to work and partner with neighboring communities to maintain the health of Canandaigua Lake. She hopes to implement local initiatives that address renewable energy by harnessing a variety of sources, including wind power and biomass. In addition, Polimeni will study geo-exchange technology that could be introduced into city-owned facilities, helping buildings stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
In response to the endorsement, Polimeni said: "I am delighted to receive the New York League of Conservation Voters' endorsement. We will continue to work hard to preserve and safeguard all aspects of our environment."
